A Work of Heart- Congenital Heart DefectJanuary 6, 2017
Did you know that a child with a Congenital Heart Defect (CHD) is born in the U.S. every 15 minutes? 50% of those children will require at least one open heart surgery in their lifetime, and many will require even more. There is no cure for CHD and often these little warriors will face life long risks of heart failure and sudden cardiac arrest.*
I Have had the complete honer of photographing a heart warrior since she was 3 years old. She has inspired me to expand my reach by offering discounted sessions to all heart warriors and by volunteering my time to document events organized by It’s My Heart New England. I believe the most difficult part of a CHD diagnosis is that the child may appear so healthy, yet be so fragile. When I photograph the stunning K.G. I see a child who is full of life and energy whom has the ability to capture any audience, it is so easy to forget that this carefree, energetic child could go into cardiac arrest at any moment. These warriors deserve every bit of respect and charity that we can manage, and even the smallest donation make such huge difference in a child living with CHD.
Even with the medical advances made over the last decade more research and funding is needed to fully understand and treat CHD. Because of this no child with CHD will EVER pay a session fee at Mary E. Hebert Photography. On top of that I will donate $10 of every purchase they make to It’s My Heart New England. Let’s help spread CHD awareness and give these heart warriors a chance to live long, full, and healthy lives!
